Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a trade name for Botulinum Toxin A, which has been used in a variety of ways by the medical establishment for the last thirty years. Now of course, it is most commonly used as an ‘anti-ageing’ solution. It is injected into the face using a tiny micro needle to limit the activity of certain wrinkle-causing facial muscles. The effects last for about three months.

Is treatment painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, Dr Lyons may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure can take as little as ten minutes. Many people return to work or normal activity immediately after treatment.

Is treatment safe?

Dr Lyons will assess your suitability for treatment at your initial consultation with him. He will avoid using BOTOX® in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site and in individuals with certain neurological disorders or those with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

BOTOX® has got a ‘bad name’ because it is sometimes used to excess. Like any good thing, the trick is to do it in moderation! Treatment shouldn’t radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve ‘had work done’. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, not removed completely, so you can still frown or look surprised, just without the permanent wrinkles and creases you had before.

What does it cost?

Prices start at £170 and depend on the number of areas to be treated. To get a more definite idea of the cost of treatment we recommend you visit the clinic for a free initial consultation. Call 020 8877 3333 to make an appointment.

What is RESTYLANE?

RESTYLANE is what is known as a ‘dermal filler’, used for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, for lip enhancements and shaping facial contours. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasal labial folds (from the root of the nose to the corners of the mouth). A sterile, gel-like substance made from naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and physiologic sodium chloride solution, it is injected into the skin in tiny amounts using a very thin needle.

Does it hurt?

Most people find the injections relatively painless, but it may prick a little. If you like, a topical anaesthetic can be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure. When enhancing the lips a local anaesthetic is often given. This is similar to an injection you would get at the dentist.

How much is a RESTYLANE treatment?

Treatment starts at £230 depending on the nature of the problem and the desired effect. Cost is calculated based on the amount of gel used as well as the time that treatment takes. Dr Lyons will confirm the cost of treatment at your initial consultation with him. Again, the combination of RESTYLANE for deep wrinkles and N-Lite for fine wrinkles works very well.

What is Microdermabrasion?

This is a ‘resurfacing’ treatment working on the top layer of the skin, which involves passing microscopic crystals across the skin, using a specially designed hand-piece with a slight vacuum, to remove dead skin cells and stimulate production of healthy new cells in the skin. As we get older, dead skin cells tend to remain on the surface for longer, contributing to a dull, grey complexion. Microdermabrasion removes these dead cells, leaving the skin looking younger and refreshed. Treatment is completely safe, quick and painless, with little or no recovery time required. It is the fastest growing aesthetic medical procedure in the US.

Is Microdermabrasian helpful for acne sufferers?

We routinely perform Microdermabrasion before laser treatment for acne, acne scarring and wrinkles to enhance results, although Microdermabrasion is also an effective treatment in its own right.

What does Microdermabrasion cost?

A single treatment is £50, or less if requested as part of package of other treatments.

What are Glycolic peels?

These are very effective at gently removing the top layers of dead skin from the face which tend to make complexions look dull. It works in a similar way to Microdermabrasion, but whereas Microdermabrasion mechanically removes a layer of dead skin and stimulates the production of healthy new cells, Glycolic peels do this chemically. The two different treatments work very well in combination. Before the peel, a diluted glycolic solution is applied to the face every night for two weeks. As well as preparing the skin for the peel, this picks up any reaction the skin might have to glycolic acid.

What do Glycolic peels cost?

A single treatment is £50, or less if requested as part of package of other treatments.
